The way

The process of producing energy using the cell that we talked about is not an easy and simple matter, because cuprous oxide is a semi-conductor material, that is, it behaves as a conductive material when an electric current flows through it, and it behaves as an insulating material when the atoms are tightly linked, so electricity does not flow. Within the semiconductor material, there is an empty area called the band gap, and it is located between the electrons that are associated with the atom, and they can move freely and very easily because they are far from the nucleus of the atom, which leads to the flow of electricity.

The electrons cannot remain inside the bandgap and when the electron gains a little energy, it moves away from the nucleus and approaches the bandgap, but at the same time, the electron when it has to move to a place far from the nucleus, it is there that it cannot gain other energy. It loses an amount of energy that enables it to fall into the band gap and then to the region where the rest of the electrons are located, and cuprous oxide when exposed to sunlight, the electrons in turn gain energy that enables it to jump into the band gap and move freely and the electric current flows, and then it moves to salt water Then to the copper plate, then to the wire, and finally back to the wire and plate again, which leads to the needle moving and retracting.

We can expect here that the amount produced by this cell reaches 50 microamps at 0.25 volts, and this is a value that cannot light a lamp or even charge batteries, we can only use it as a searchlight or even a light meter so that it is light.
