Put out the fire

In our homes, our cars, our factories, our markets, and everywhere we are exposed to accidents that may result in the ignition of fire, and trying to extinguish the fire as soon as it ignites helps in limiting the losses that may occur, and in preventing the spread of the fire, and the simplest thing that confronts a person in such a situation is the need to use an extinguisher Fire, and this process is very easy, but it must be practiced, so that we do not feel nervous if we have to use it.

Steps to deal with fire

  • The first step to dealing with a fire is to call for help from the civil defense teams, as the fire can spread and grow in a way that is difficult to deal with, so the presence of experts from the civil defense teams is better, and providing a simplified explanation on the phone about the type of fire and its causes if possible is considered important. .
  • People's lives are given priority over extinguishing the fire, so the place must be evacuated from people, even animals, and put them in a safe place.
  • The need to prevent children from trying or participating in putting out a fire, under any circumstances, so that the problem does not worsen.
  • Some people feel confused, so they cannot deal with the situation, so they must be trained before making them participate in extinguishing the fire, or they are left away with the children.
  • Ensure that the exit is free of any obstacles that prevent exit quickly and easily, and in the event that this is not possible, it is better to evacuate the place, and not to put out the fire so that everyone can escape with his life, and leave the issue to the defense men for civilians who are trained to deal with the fire.
  • Usually, extinguishers are placed and installed on the exits, so that the person's back is to the door when extinguishing, and the exit is close to it. In the event that the person is unable to put out the fire, the person leaves quickly.
  • Do not attempt to extinguish the fire completely, if there is a suspicion that toxic gases are emitting from it.
  • If more than one extinguisher is available, it is best to seek help from other people to extinguish the fire.
  • A person's life is much more important than any property or place, and he must preserve his soul and take care of it more than his concern for the possessions of the place.

Evaluate the burning fire

Before proceeding to extinguish the fire, the quality of the fire must be evaluated, and the possibility of extinguishing it using the extinguisher. If it is usually small, a small extinguisher can be used, because it contains limited amounts of anti-fire, but if the fire is large, the size of a room or house, then it is difficult to do so, so it is better to evacuate The place quickly, and civil defense teams were requested to deal with the fire.

Types of fire extinguishers and their uses

  • Water extinguisher: suitable for clothes, wood, rubber, paper, and plastic. The extinguisher is usually filled with 9.5 liters of water under pressure.
  • Dry chemical extinguishers: Usually a mixture of monoammonium phosphate and ammonium sulfate is suitable for extinguishing grease and oil derivatives fires, because water can cause an increase in explosions and ignition.
  • CO2 extinguishers: used to put out electrical fires caused by electrical tools, or an electrical overload.

How to use extinguishers

  • Dealing with an extinguisher is very easy, and it is not as complicated as some think, but it must be tried and trained in normal circumstances, so that if an emergency occurs, it can be dealt with easily, and there are four basic steps to use it, which are:
  • Removing the safety screw: The extinguisher is usually protected by a safety screw on its hand, in the form of a plastic ring or a metal ring, and a plastic seal above it. This screw protects its pump and prevents it from working. To use it, the seal is cut, and the safety screw is pulled out.
  • Pointing the nozzle at the base of the fire: the goal is to isolate the fuel tank from the burning fire, so that the fire loses its source, and it is easier to extinguish it.
  • Keep the extinguisher's nozzle away from the fire a distance of 15 cm to a meter, in order to expand the movement of the extinguisher, so that the materials coming out of it can spread. It is possible to notice a high level of fire at the start of extinguishing, there is no reason for fear because this means that the flame is moving away from its source, and the flame will be extinguished quickly.
  • Press the pump to remove the liquid from the extinguisher.

Tips for putting out a fire

  • In the event that the room is filled with smoke, it must be evacuated quickly, and the extinguishing must be stopped.
  • In the event that the fire is extinguished, the place must not be left, and any fuel source and any flammable material must be removed from it, and water should be placed in large quantities, so that the place does not return to ignition from sparks that may be issued here or there.
  • After extinguishing the fire, a new extinguisher must be purchased and placed in a suitable place away from children and opposite the exit.
