Family planning methods

Many families seek to regulate the number of their members, using healthy and safe means that guarantee the health of the mother and fetus, and reduce the increase in child mortality, as well as contribute effectively to the psychological and financial stability of the family.

There are many methods of family planning to suit the nature of the woman’s body and her ability to adapt to it, and to help her organize the pregnancy periods without making any mistake that would lead her to an unplanned pregnancy.

Family planning methods

Contraceptive methods are categorized into three main methods:

  • Mechanical methods: They include a number of methods that help delay pregnancy for rather long periods, based on the desire of the spouses, including:
    • Intrauterine device: It is a device made of simple copper and plastic elements, which is implanted in the cervix. To prevent hormonal interactions within the uterus, and to reduce the arrival of sperm to the fallopian tubes, and this helps to a large extent to prevent the implantation of embryos in the uterus.
    • Hormonal IUD: contains the female hormone progesterone, which regulates the menstrual cycle and relieves the associated pain.
    • The method of counting (isolation): This method is the most widespread among husbands, as it determines the date of ovulation for the wife, and intercourse is prohibited during that period. This is to ensure that the egg is not fertilized at that stage. This method works effectively for women whose cycle is regular, that is, every twenty-eight to thirty days exactly, so that the wife can accurately determine the date of ovulation, and prevent intercourse from the day after the end of the menstrual cycle, until four days from the specified time.
    • Condom: It is a rubber bag used by the husband to prevent sperm from reaching the wife's womb during sexual intercourse. It is one of the cheapest and most widely used methods of contraception. One of the disadvantages of this method is that it does not give the couple pleasure during sexual relations, nor is it considered a XNUMX% safe method of contraception.
    • The plastic ring: It is a plastic device that takes the shape of a ring, and is installed in the cervix, as it works to prevent sperm from reaching the fallopian tubes, and the occurrence of pregnancy.
  • Hormonal methods: These methods are a set of measures that work to prevent pregnancy, by regulating ovulation hormonally, and are represented by the following means:
    • Contraceptive pills: a drug that suppresses the wife's ovulation and reduces her chances of pregnancy. This is because they contain the hormones estrogen and progesterone, which work to stop the growth of eggs before the menstrual cycle occurs, and thus double the chance of very small percentages, and they come in two types: mixed pills, and single pills.
    • Progesterone injections to prevent pregnancy: This method relies on injecting the long-acting hormone progesterone to prevent ovulation, and it is given at a dose of one hundred and fifty mg every twelve weeks. One of the disadvantages of this method is that it is not used for short periods, meaning that if the woman wants to become pregnant after a few months, she does not have to use it, because these injections prevent ovulation for a year, and more.
  • Surgical methods: These methods depend on performing surgical operations to prevent fertilization and pregnancy, and they are used for both spouses, namely:
    • Women's sterilization operations: This process is performed to cut off the path that connects the sperm and the egg, while ensuring that the menstrual cycle remains the same for the wife, meaning that she comes on time without any change.
    • Sterilization of the man: This method is to cut off the path that carries sperm from the testicles to the semen, by placing the man under the influence of local anesthesia, then removing a piece of the tube carrying it, and this simple operation, it does not take more than fifteen minutes to perform.
