A topic about the mother and our duty towards her

Children's duties towards the mother

It is no secret to anyone that the mother has a great status and superiority over humans in all religions and civilizations. The right of parents has been mentioned in the Noble Qur’an and there have been many hadiths mentioning their superiority over humans, and with the mother being assigned a higher status, even if she is not the nanny. The effort she has made in Pregnancy and childbirth are enough to give her this great status.

Whoever realizes this must be keen to honor his mother and be kind to her, regardless of her religion, or her morals, and no matter how negligent, weak, or bad she is. Here we mention some of the most important broad lines in dealing with the mother:

Kindness to the mother

It includes all types of kindness, including words, deeds, body, and money, especially in old age, because they are most in need of kindness, righteousness, and gentleness at this age. Examples of this include:

  • Help her with her routine work without asking her.
  • Set aside a specific time to spend with her.
  • Searching for what will make her happy: whether it is a special gift, a simple outing, or surprising her by inviting her to lunch at a restaurant where she has pleasant memories from her youth.
  • Appreciate and thank her in specific terms for what she has provided and continues to provide for free.
  • Declare her love.

Obedience to the mother without disobedience

She must take the initiative to fulfill her needs and interests without hesitation, as long as this falls within the limits of what is permissible. However, if the son is not able to achieve this, he must go as far as he can to apologize to her and explain the reason.

Praying for the mother

No matter how charitable a person is, he will not be able to reward his mother for the good deed she did to him and her kindness to him, so he must pray a lot for her during her life and death, as God Almighty said: (And say, “My Lord, have mercy on them as they raised me when I was a child.”).
