  • Natural sapphires are characterized by their stable color, and do not reflect different colors when exposed to light, unlike artificial sapphires, which change color to several colors when exposed to light.
  • If it appears that there are bubbles in the ruby stone when examined with a magnifying glass, this indicates that it is an artificial ruby, and the presence of scratches in the ruby stone and thin parallel lines indicates that it is made of glass, and not a natural stone.
  • Natural rubies are smaller in size than synthetic rubies.
  • Synthetic rubies are lighter in weight than natural rubies.
  • The surface of natural sapphires tends to be rougher than synthetic sapphires, which are characterized by their smooth surfaces.
  • A natural ruby stone must have a certificate indicating its source and origin.
  • When a ruby stone is placed in gold-plated metals, this indicates that it is artificial. As natural sapphire is a precious stone, it is often set in pure gold.
  • If the price of a ruby stone is normal compared to the prices of gemstones known in jewelry markets, this indicates that it is a counterfeit stone, because gemstones are expensive.
