Aquarium filters
Filters are added to ornamental fish tanks to clean the tank by filtering the water, withdrawing the dirt stuck in it, and accelerating the process of its analysis, in addition to withdrawing carbon dioxide from the tank, and they are necessary for the ponds. Because ornamental fish ponds are considered a small, closed environment with stagnant water, and they do not contain an ecosystem such as seas and rivers that help them clean themselves.
The working principle of the filter
It depends on pushing the air into the basin, so it draws the basin water with it and passes it through a medium containing anaerobic bacteria that purifies the water. Then the water passes through a sponge, and dirt gets stuck in it, and the water goes back to the basin. In the water.
Types of flats
There are two main types of filters:
- internal filter: In relation to its placement inside the basin, an air suction tube is added to it that feeds the water with oxygen and withdraws carbon dioxide, and the filter capacity is directly proportional to the capacity of the basin. For example, a 100-liter water basin for which we use a 100-liter/hour filter to purify the water once every hour.
- external filter: In relation to its placement outside the basin, the principle of its work is similar to the internal filter. The capacity of the filter must be three times that of the basin, meaning a basin of 100 liters. We use a filter of 300 liters / hour for it. The basin is purified three times per hour.
Set up a water filter
Materials
- Sponge 5 cm long, 5 cm wide and 7 cm high.
- An old water bottle of 50 ml.
- ceramic pieces.

- plastic hanger.
- Plastic hose (barbish) with a diameter of 1 cm.
Setup steps
- We pierce the lid of the can, by heating a nail and inserting it inside the lid more than once, taking into account that the diameter of the hole is equal to the diameter of the hose.
- We make one hole in the neck of the can under the lid, and another in the first quarter of the can towards the base, not the lid.
- We make several holes at the base to get the air out, and the larger the diameter of the hole, the bigger the bubbles.
- We put the hose in one of the holes in the lid of the can, it must be equal to the diameter of the barbish, and we connect the hose from the other end with the pump.
- The hanger is inserted into the third hole located in the quarter of the case before the base.
- We put the porcelain inside the box and fill it with it.
- We close the case.
- We open the sponge from the middle within 3 cm, and put the head of the can after placing the lid inside it.
- We install the filter inside the basin on the side of the hanger, and the sponge is hitting the bottom of the basin, and the base of the can is up.
- We connect the pump to electricity, and the filter starts working directly.
