Arab poems

Arab poets have excelled in expressing eloquence in the Arabic language. The illiterate at that time was not the one who did not know how to write and read, but rather the illiterate was the one who did not have the wisdom and acumen to compose poetic verses. Arabic poetry is distinguished from other poetry in the world in that it has lyrical meters that go along with the divisions of the poetic lines in the poem. This is what makes Arabic poetry difficult when applying the principle of poetic meter while adhering to rhyme, and beautifying the poem with aesthetic aspects of debate, metaphors, aesthetic images, similes, expressions, aphorisms, satire, and praise. And many other styles included in the poem. The poets distinguished themselves from each other. They were classified according to the era in which they lived and composed poetry, and in this article we will present to you some poetic verses taken from each era and their speaker.

Urwa bin Al-Ward

He is one of the poets of the pre-Islamic era, and we mention a line of his in which he clearly expresses amazement at the lovers’ survival despite the challenges they faced according to conservative Arab society. In his opinion, it is a natural thing for lovers to die, but for them to remain alive, this can only happen through separation, or for each of them to preserve the life of the other. He believes that death is better than the lover tasting the bitterness of separation, as he says this line, which was taken from his poem (And indeed, you will give me a shock at your memory):

And I am not surprised at the death of lovers in passion

But the survival of lovers is strange

Beautiful Buthaina

He is one of the poets of the Umayyad era, and was named (Jamil Buthaina) after his beloved and cousin, Buthaina. He loved her with a sincere, virginal love until they grew and their love grew with the years, so he dared to ask for her from his uncle, but he refused his request. Because Jamil could hardly stop praising Buthaina in his poetry, something that was shameful for them, and he says in his poem (The Prime of Youth) the following line:

I wish the prime of youth was new and the era had passed, O Buthin, and would return.

So we will remain as we used to be while you are near, and since what you spend is little.

Al-Mutanabbi

He is one of the most famous poets of the Abbasid era, and he was given this name due to his great skill in composing poetry, which led him to arrogance. Due to the severity of his arrogance, it was reported that he said: If there was a prophet for the poets, I would be their prophet. Al-Mutanabbi's name means (claimant of prophethood), but his real name is (Ahmed bin Al-Hussein bin Al-Hasan bin Abdul-Samad Al-Jaafi Abu Al-Tayeb Al-Kindi), and one of his most famous verses, which were taken from the poem (I am the one who looked at the blind in my literature):
