What is RSS

RSS service

RSS is an abbreviation for (Rich Site Summary) - a condensed summary of the site - or (Really Simple Syndication) - a very simplified feed - and it is a service that delivers to you the latest content updates of the site that you have subscribed to as soon as they occur, for example: main news headlines, blog content, videos, Weather updates... etc., where you can get new content for your favorite sites without having to enter each site separately, and the information you receive from these sites is called RSS Feed.

RSS feed appears

RSS was created around 1999 by two Netscape developers, Dan Libby and Ramanathan V. Guh. The first release of RSS was in March 1999, and was called RSS 0.9. In July 1999, Dan Libby developed a new version, RSS 0.91. In 2002, the New York Times introduced the RSS Feed on its website, after which Internet browsers began adding this technology directly to their products. Today we notice that all well-known websites in the world are provided with RSS services.

Advantages of using RSS service

The RSS service saves you time in browsing your favorite sites that you follow continuously. How the RSS service works

Information is sent from its source through simple text files that the publishing site sends to a special feed server. Then the RSS feed server, in turn, sends it to the subscribers screen. It usually takes 30 seconds to 30 minutes for updates to appear to the subscriber in the service.

How to use the RSS service

To benefit from RSS, you need a program that can read and display the sent information. This program is called RSS Reader. The RSS Reader updates the information automatically, allowing you to obtain and browse RSS Feed from different sites.

Most RSS Readers are available for free, and are selected according to your device's operating system. You can subscribe to this service through an Internet browser if it supports the RSS subscription service, such as Mozilla Firefox, which can be downloaded from the Mozilla website and the new version of Internet Explorer and the Safari browser.
