Olive oil is an oil extracted from the blessed tree that God Almighty swore by in His saying: “By the fig and the olive.” Olive oil was mentioned in the Holy Qur’an once. God Almighty said: “...it is kindled from a blessed olive tree, neither of the East nor of the West, whose oil almost gives light.” …”[ Surah An-Nur: 35].

The olive tree is one of the trees that belong to the olive family. It is a perennial tree that lives for thousands of years. It is evergreen and does not shed its leaves in the fall. Its native home is Palestine, the Levant, and the entire Mediterranean basin region, and its branches are a symbol of peace and love.

Olive oil properties and benefits

  • Olive oil at normal temperatures is a yellow or greenish liquid.
  •  Olive oil does not freeze at low temperatures.
  • Olive oil is rich in unsaturated acids in a high percentage, so it is recommended for patients with heart disease and atherosclerosis, and it helps reduce cholesterol in the blood.
  • Saturated fatty acids in a small percentage, and polyunsaturated acids in a small percentage as well.
  • Olive oil contains many antioxidants, such as vitamin E, vitamin A, and polyphenols.
  • Using olive oil as a mainstay at the table and in preparing meals reduces the growth and proliferation of cancer cells because it contains folic acid. It also strengthens the human immune system and improves the digestive process.

Uses of olive oil

Olive oil is used in many fields, as it is used in cooking and as an addition to some dishes and salads, in scientific research, and in the preparation of medicines and medical and cosmetic preparations. It is also used in the manufacture of soap, skin cleansers, etc., and is also used at home in the form of moisturizing oil for the skin and hair.

Olive oil for the face

  • Olive oil is used for the face as well as for the rest of the body. It provides the face with vitamin E and antioxidants that fight the signs of aging, aging, and the appearance of wrinkles.
  • Olive oil with coarse salt or coarse sugar to exfoliate the face by rubbing it with this mixture, then washing it with lukewarm, cold water.
  • Use olive oil as a natural makeup remover.
  • Use a mixture of olive oil, egg whites, and a little lemon and place it on the face until it dries to give freshness and vitality to the face.
  • Use olive oil to massage the face daily for five minutes, as the face gains nutrients from the oil in addition to stimulating blood circulation, which reduces the appearance of wrinkles.
  • Rub the area around the eyes with olive oil daily before bed to eliminate dark circles and refresh the delicate skin surrounding the eyes.

The use of olive oil is an order from the Prophet of the Ummah because he knew of its great benefit when used. He, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “Eat the oil and anoint yourself with it, for it is from a blessed tree.” Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi.
