How is hair transplantation performed?

Baldness phenomenon

Many people lose a large portion of their hair due to hereditary baldness, or suffering from some diseases that cause hair loss, such as alopecia, or exposure to a large wound in the hair growth area, or as a result of the psychological and social pressures they are exposed to in their daily lives. Repeated and continuous washing of hair with salt water also causes Using shampoo with a strong chemical composition weakens the scalp and hair roots and causes them to fall out significantly, leaving large gaps between the hair strands. Many of these people resort to old traditional methods to strengthen and thicken the hair, but after it is too late, the hair follicles have dried up so that they are unable to form new hair strands. The only successful solution in this case is hair transplantation.

Hair transplantation process

The methods used in hair transplantation vary depending on the causes of hair loss. In general, the hair transplantation process occurs by taking a transverse strip of healthy hair follicles and transplanting them in a place devoid of hair, allowing them to grow and reproduce until they produce a large number of healthy follicles, so that the healthy follicles continue By multiplying until it covers the empty area of hair, allowing hair to grow in that area, the specialist surgeon may resort to transplanting the empty areas of hair all at once or in stages according to the patient’s desire.

  • A portion of the healthy scalp (in which hair grows) is cut in the form of a transverse strip, 10 cm and 2 cm long, usually at the back of the head. The resulting wound is then closed to prevent infection.
  • The strip resulting from the cutting process is cut crosswise into multiple small strips, so that each strip contains three or four healthy follicles containing hair follicles, so that the surgeon can use them in more than one way and distribute them correctly in the empty area of hair.
  • The surgeon determines the points where strips of hair follicles will be transplanted, by drawing a precise map in the empty area of the hair scalp based on studied calculations.
  • The surgeon makes incisions with a diameter of 2-3 mm at the location of the points specified in the previous step.
  • The hair follicles are inserted well into the holes.
  • Cover the scalp for at least 10 days.
  • The surgeon removes the scalp covering, and washes the hair with a disinfectant shampoo. During this period, the hair from the transplanted follicles will have increased in length, but it begins to fall out during the first three months of transplantation until it disappears completely, and then the follicles work to produce new hair in that area.
