The Nile River
The Nile River is considered the longest river in the world, and there is disagreement about its exact length. Its length can be estimated at about 6.853 kilometers. It flows from the north through the tropical climate of East Africa and reaches the Mediterranean Sea. The Nile River passes through eleven countries: Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda. Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Sudan, and Egypt, in addition to having two main tributaries: the White Nile flowing from Lake Victoria, which is considered the largest lake in Africa, and passes through Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. However, Lake Victoria is not considered the main source of the river, because the lake itself has many feeder rivers coming from the surrounding mountains. The second tributary is the Blue Nile, which carries two-thirds of the water and silt volume of the Nile River. It is found in Lake Tana in Ethiopia, and the Nile meets Blue with the White Nile near the Sudanese capital Khartoum, and from there the day flows north through the desert in Egypt, then reaches the Mediterranean Sea through a large delta.
