How to plant coconut

conditions to be met

Several conditions must be met in the coconut cultivation environment, namely:

  • the light: The coconut tree needs sunlight to grow properly, and therefore it should be planted in a place that gets as much sun as possible.
  • water: The soil must be kept moist by irrigating it with warm water, taking into account not letting its soil soak in water in the winter.
  • the soil: Coconut cultivation does not require a specific type of soil, but it is preferable to use well-drained soil, such as sandy soil, and therefore its soil mixture can be used.
  • Fertilisers: Coconuts must be fed throughout the year with liquid fertilizers or palm fertilizers, and increased nutrition during the summer months, as they grow rapidly at that time.

Coconut cultivation steps

To grow coconuts, the following steps should be followed:

  • Choosing the right seed for planting, which is the seed that falls from the mother tree, which is characterized by the ability to hear the sound of water inside it when shaking it.
  • Soak the bean in water for two or three days, keeping the skin intact.
  • You must use a container for cultivation that is not less than 25 centimeters deep, and with a diameter commensurate with a coconut, then fill it with suitable soil.
  • Place the coconut after removing the outer husks in the soil, so that the pointed end is towards the bottom, and the end attached to the tree is towards the top, taking into account keeping a third of the grain above the soil surface.
  • Move the pot to a sunny and warm place, as the coconut grows well at a temperature of up to 21 degrees Celsius, and be careful to irrigate it, while making sure of the quality of soil drainage.

  • Irrigation continuously as long as the soil drains water properly.
  • Fertilize the tree frequently.
  • Bringing the tree indoors in the winter, while keeping the sun's rays from reaching it.
  • The coconut tree may be exposed to some diseases, such as bacteria and fungi, and the best way to avoid this is by avoiding excessive moisture. Early detection of these injuries must be done in order to treat them in the appropriate way, in addition to some types of insects that leave their saliva on the leaves of the plant, causing them to turn yellow and die.
